Making a Difference
A Bradford Christmas is a nonprofit foundation that was started in 2019. Every year, we fundraise for a different registered charity. Since 2019, A Bradford Christmas has supported 3 charities (we fundraised for a particular charity twice!), hosted 70+ fundraisers, organized and operated 3 successful silent auctions that collectively raised $22k, partnered with 15+ local businesses to host fundraisers, welcomed dozens of generous sponsors and raised $75k+ for charities across the GTA!
How It Started
We are Sarah and Emily Dahlgren. We are 19 & 18 years old and we enjoy giving back to our community! You may have seen us volunteering around town, at the library, town events and at local businesses!
On July 1, 2019 Emily received the Junior Citizen of the Year Award for the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury!
Upon receiving this great honour we both realized that there was even more we could do to help people in our community.
Every year our local Helping Hand Food Bank gives out Christmas Hampers to their clients. Each Christmas Hamper has everything needed for a Christmas dinner, plus a weeks worth of groceries. We wanted to add to the food banks Christmas Hampers and asked the food bank if we could give away Festive Hampers; explaining every Festive Hampers will have 17 non-perishable, plus pet treats if applicable, whilst taking into consideration specific dietary needs.
Ater the Helping Hand Food Bank said “yes!” to our proposal, we immediately started writing letters to corporate companies asking for food donations. We wrote to almost 100 corporate companies!
That was how A Bradford Christmas was born!
Emily Dahlgren is the Co-founder of A Bradford Christmas.
Emily is a bit of an entrepreneur! She started her first business at only 12 years old, it is a local concession stand in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
